On June 5, 2019 the Latvian Medical and Dental Association handed out scholarships of the Professor Ilmārs Lazovskis' Medical Fund in the total amount of $7,000.

Nine motivated students have received support for further studies and training, among them University of Latvia Faculty of Medicine 5th year student Jana Višņevska.

"Professor Lazovskis' path of life, his views and actions shall serve as a great help to our young doctors," - said Uģis Gruntmanis, the president of the Association, pointing out prof. Lazovskis' contribution to the Latvian National Awakening. Mrs. Edīte Lazovska, the spouse of Ilmārs Lazovskis and a doctor herself wished for the students to develop their personalities and also achieve success in art, music and literature as well as love their profession and travel the world, but then again return home where they are needed.”

The Latvian Medical and Dental Association (LĀZA- in Latvian) was established in Germany in 1947 by recent émigrés. There are more than 300 active members in the organisation at this time. LĀZA's purpose in bringing together Latvian medical professionals who live outside of Latvia. LĀZA supports doctors with scholarships and awards of various kinds. Since the restoration of Latvia’s independence, many of these have gone to students and professionals in Latvia itself. Thus LĀZA represents a bridge between Latvian medical professionals in Latvia and abroad.
